WORK IN A WORKOUT

Not enough time in the day for a workout? Not true! You probably have millions of things to do when you get home, but you can squeeze in your exercise right here at work. Try some of the following:

  • Take the stairs. Are you aware that climbing stairs burns 10 times more calories than using the elevator?
  • Tackle your most difficult tasks in the morning, if possible. You can get them out of the way and make room for easier items on your agenda in the afternoon.
  • Run your errands—literally. Jog to the grocery store to pick up dinner. Need to send a letter? Run to a nearby (or not-so-nearby) mailbox. Don't just walk the dog, jog with your dog.
  • Multitask on a treadmill. Carry small weights in each hand to shorten workouts while maximizing their impact on your body. Or turn passive time into active time by reading on a treadmill. Even the slowest speeds make a difference over time.
  • Instead of emailing or instant-messaging your co-workers, walk over to their desks. You'll get yourself moving and also benefit from some personal interaction as well.
  • Consider holding short, standing or walking meetings to get active while you brainstorm.
  • Convert your cubicle into a standing work station. The dangers of prolonged sitting are well known. Avoid them by using this one simple trick: standing.

Remember—your time is important, but so is your health!
